About London Ontario Data Explorer

London Ontario Data Explorer is a free, open-source tool that makes City of London open government data more accessible and understandable. Our primary focus is on building permits and development activity.

What We Do

We answer questions like:

• "What's being built in London right now?"
• "How many construction permits were issued in my ward?"
• "What are the largest permits this month?"
• "What are the trends in building permit activity?"

How It Works

We run an automated data pipeline that fetches building permit data from the City of London Open Data Portal, normalizes it, and generates this static website. The site is rebuilt daily to stay current.

Technology

This site is built with Astro, a modern static site generator. Data is processed with TypeScript and stored in SQLite. Charts use Chart.js.
